Account & verification
Creating an account takes an email address, a display name, and a password, plus a one-time code we email you.
I didn't get my verification code
Right after you tap Create Account, we email a 6-digit code to the address you entered. If it hasn't appeared:
- Give it a minute or two. Delivery is usually quick, but not instant.
- Check junk and spam — and in Gmail, the Promotions and Updates tabs. Searching your mail for "Owl Pod" finds it fastest.
- Check the address for typos. The code goes exactly where you typed it. If the address was wrong, create the account again with the right one.
- Ask for a fresh code. On the Verify Email screen, tap Resend code.
- Closed the app already? Nothing is lost. Open it again and on the sign-in screen choose "Already registered but need to verify? Enter code."
One thing to watch: enter the 6-digit code from the email, not a friend's referral code — they look similar, and the referral code has its own box.
My password isn't being accepted
Use at least 8 characters with a lowercase letter and a number. Uppercase letters and symbols are welcome but optional. Both password boxes must match exactly — the most common snag is a stray capital or space added by autocorrect.
It says an account with my email already exists
That address has been used before — often by you, on an earlier try, or by a family member on a shared address. Tap Sign in instead. If the password is lost, use "Forgot your password? Reset it" on the sign-in screen: we email a reset code, then you choose a new password.
I can't sign in
- "The email or password was not accepted." Double-check the address, then try again or use Reset it.
- "This email has not been verified yet." Finish verification first — choose Enter code on the sign-in screen and use the code we emailed you.
- Too many attempts in a row? Sign-in pauses briefly for safety. Wait a few minutes, then try again or reset your password.
Can I change my display name later?
Yes. Your display name is how other members see you, and you can change it any time from your profile in the app. It needs to be between 2 and 64 characters.
The waitlist
New accounts may start in a first-come, first-served line while we open up access.
Why am I on a waitlist?
Owl Pod Stories is new, and we let people in steadily so recording, transcription, and support stay fast for every member. So after you verify your email, your account may start on the waitlist.
- The line is first come, first served. Your place is set the moment you create your account, and the app shows your current position.
- There is nothing you need to do. We'll let you know when access becomes available.
- Tap "Check again" on the waitlist screen any time to refresh your status. When it's your turn, that same tap drops you straight into the app, ready to record your first story.
How long will the wait be?
It depends on how quickly we can open capacity, so we don't promise a timeframe. The line only moves forward: the position the app shows you is live, and it never gets worse. You're welcome to check as often as you like.
Will I lose my place if I sign out or delete the app?
No. Your place in line belongs to your account, not your phone. You can sign out, delete the app, or switch phones — sign back in and you're exactly where you were. (Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account.)
Do referral codes skip the line?
No — a referral code connects your account with the friend who invited you; it doesn't change your place in line. Codes are optional, 6 characters, case-sensitive, and shared by an existing member from their app settings. Add one while creating your account if you have it; a referral can only be applied once, during sign-up.
Recording stories
Record a memory, and Owl Pod Stories transcribes and organizes it into your Life Library.
Do I have to answer a prompt?
No. Prompts are questions designed to spark memories — you can answer one, or record anything you'd like. Skipping a prompt costs nothing; it will still be there later.
What happens after I record?
Your take is saved on your phone, then uploads to your library. From there it's transcribed and organized by theme, so you can find any memory again by searching for what it was about — not just when you recorded it.
I lost connection while recording — is my story gone?
No. Recordings are saved on your phone first, and uploads wait in a queue until you're connected again. Reopen the app on a connection and the upload picks up where it left off.
Can I rename or delete a story?
Yes, both, from the story in your library. Renaming just changes the title. Deleting removes the story — see the Privacy Policy for how deletion and retention work.
Sharing & privacy
Your stories are private by default. You control who sees what.
Who can see my stories?
Only you, unless you decide otherwise. Every story starts private, and you choose who can see each one when you record it. The full picture of how your data is handled is in the Privacy Policy.
What are connections?
Connections are the people you've chosen to share with — family and friends you invite or accept. Connecting with someone doesn't show them your library; you still pick which stories they can see.
What's a Hoot?
A Hoot is a quick way to react to a story you love. Stories you Hoot are also kept together in your library's Hooted list, so you can find your favourites from your connections again.
Can I block someone?
Yes — from their profile, your connections list, or a chat. Blocking stops them from contacting you or sending new connection invitations, and they are not told you blocked them. You can review and undo blocks in Settings.
How do I report a story or a message?
Report it directly from the story or the conversation in the app. Reports are reviewed by our team against the Community Guidelines; what reviewers can and cannot see is spelled out in the Privacy Policy.
Story credits
Credits are what recording runs on — one credit records one story.
What is a story credit?
One credit records one story. Your account comes with credits to get you started, and your current balance — along with any credits you've been granted — lives in the app's Gifts screen.
What happens if I run out of credits?
Your recording is never lost — it stays safely on your phone, and uploads automatically the moment your balance comes back. When you hit zero, the app points you to support@owlpodstories.com; write to us and we'll sort you out.
Do credits cost money?
Not right now. Owl Pod Stories is free at launch and there is nothing to buy in the app — credits come with your account and by grants from us.
Your data & account
The Privacy Policy is the authoritative version of everything in this section.
What data do you collect?
Your account details, the stories you choose to record, and what's needed to run sharing, notifications, and support — and no location data, no ad tracking, and no selling of your data. The complete list is in the Privacy Policy.
How are my recordings processed?
Owl Pod Stories generates transcripts, titles, summaries, and themes from your stories using on-device and cloud processing pathways, so your library is searchable. The Privacy Policy describes the providers involved and how that data is handled.
How do I delete my account?
From the app: Settings → account deletion. Deletion is permanent. A small set of records (purchases, support, security) may be kept where required — the Privacy Policy has the details, including what happens to messages you've sent to other people.
If I delete my account, what happens to messages I sent?
Messages you send become part of the other person's record of the conversation, so messages you sent remain in their copy; messages other people sent to you are removed with your account. The full rule is in the Privacy Policy under Retention.
